Graffiti in Oaxaca (Protegenos santisima virgen de las barrikadas) / (Holy Virgin protects us from the barricades)
I think a lot of people underestimate Mexico’s potential. Its sad to see many foreign people, chicanos, mexican-americans and even mexicans refering only to the past. As if glorifying the past keeps us “more Mexican” or in the case of foreigners they seem to think of Mexico as dark skin colored people with huge sombreros and with no contact with the outer world.
Mexico is more than that. And this image is proof of it . There is rebellion, culture and much more. The women and men in Mexico nowdays arent what they used to be. Technology, politics, globalization has made this country different; we still have our traditions but there are definitely innovations. We have our problems like any other country but that doesnt stop groups of people that want it to be a better place.
Art is big in Mexico and its constantly changing. People rave about Banksy, and indeed he is one of the greatest street artists out there, If you like Mexico and like political art or street art for that matter… check out the Graffiti works in Oaxaca. I believe its a group of people who make these, using these stencils as a political comment and protest.
Enjoy.
